jodrell I noticed quite a few black Mealworms. Are these a few casualties caused by the stress of transportation (they only went in 3 days ago) or are these shed skins I've seen other people talking about...or are they some initial form of Pupae?
Black ones are definitely the dead ones. During the transportation, it's a highly stressful situation, so that explains that.
EMac I’ve found chopsticks useful for removing dead mealies and old, dry bits of food. If you’ve wanted to practice your use of chopsticks, this task is a great opportunity. 🥢
Great chopstick ideas! You guys can also use the harvesting function to a certain degree. The heat will deter the live worms from the metal plate. The dead ones will stay on the metal plate. However, we do not recommend to do this function too much as this will stress the mealworms.
Another way is to remove all the feed/leftovers from the tray, then pour into harvesting funnel. Do not need to turn on harvesting. Just allow the live mealworms crawl through the holes overnight.
